The North Shore

The North Shore of Massachusetts is the East Coast from just North of Boston to the New Hampshire border which is more than cities and town but a vital part of American History.  It is difficult to travel through the area without passing a Land Mark of some sort that will bring you back to the Colonies early days.  The costal cities have the Atlantic Ocean as part of their heritage as these were the bustling sea ports and fishing villages.  Inland were the farming communities lining the rivers and streams, some became major cities when manufacturing became part of American business.  Small farming towns became mill towns and turned into cities.
The North Shore is now a blend of Historic New England, Manufacturing New England and Present Day New England.  Some contrasts are subtle others are extreme, but which ever it is it is all part of New England.

In my search for links on the Internet to use as a reference to those not familiar with the area I discovered   http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ma/county/essex/towns.htm which provides information which covers 350 years.  The problem being that the cities and towns supply the information contained on the site and some have provided very little material.  Several of the cities and towns have extremely active Historical Societies and provide a massive amount of information to the site, some have provided very little.

An area that we are all interested in is Historic New England and there is no better way of appreciating it than by visiting the Historic Sites.
